What if we bring motor sports and touring in South America together beautifully in an ATV tour in Peru? A tour that finds you riding from the base camp 50-minutes outside of Cusco city to the archaeological site of Moray and then down into the salt mines of Maras? Well, we did! As you maneuver your four-wheeler to and through the sites, feel the wind in your face and take in the breath taking landscape.
High Season: April to November
Altitude: 3350m/10,990 ft
We pick up the group at your hotel in Cusco city in a private transport only for clients of Discover Inca Planet. We’ll then drive to the base camp which is about 50 minutes away where we will pick up our essential gear for the tour – helmets, gloves, windbreaker jackets, etc. After a brief but important talk about how to properly operate the ATVs and their security systems, we’ll begin the tour. We’ll start our fun tour at the archaeological center of Moray. The tickets are not included here since we can simply purchase them at the entrance for a small fee or if you have already purchased them, please bring them along. Let’s take in this place for 15 to 30 minutes and appreciate the agricultural prowess of the Incas in how they farmed and acclimated foreign vegetables to Peruvian mountain climates. Once we’ve taken it in, we’re off to the town Maras! Enjoy the fun and comfort of the ATV as you view the landscape on our way. We’ll break for pictures for about 10 minutes before we continue on to the salt mines. At the entrance of the salt mines, we will stop briefly again and purchase the tickets. We will leave our ATVs here at the entrance and our private transport van will drive us down next to the mines so we can get out and have an up-close look and discuss its history. You may even get to have a taste! Once we’ve taken it all in and taken pictures to memorialize this visit, we will take the transport back to our ATVs. Our return trip to base camp is about a 30-minute scenic ride. After which, our private transport will return you back to your hotel in Cusco city. Ask us about great places for lunch or dinner and drinks in the city!
